Product Description
605PRO is an effective stripper without using Methylene Chloride or NMP. Using BLUE BEAR’s new Safenol, this stripper effectively removes multiple layers of paint, varnish, enamel, urethane, other simple coatings, and lead based paint. 605PRO is a safe, low odor, eco-friendly, non-caustic coating remover for your next job. Coverage: Coverage per square foot varies depending on type and age of coating, number of layers, and method of application. Thickness of the stripper should exceed the thickness of coatings being removed. Horizontal: Average coverage is 125 sq ft per gallon (max 200 sq ft per gallon) Vertical: Average coverage is 75 sq ft per gallon Precautions: Concrete surfaces may darken with use of 605PRO. Protect plants and vegetation with a plastic drop cloth. Always use care to prevent overspray from getting on surfaces other than the one being prepped or cleaned. Warnings: May cause eye irritation. Keep out of reach of children. Flash Point None pH Level 6.5 VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) 49%, 4.16lb/g, 497g/L California and OTC Compliant Ingredients: Dibasic ester, proprietary thickening, and surfactant blend Safe for Use On: Concrete, masonry, wood, metal, and fiberglass *Fiberglass must be attended. If left too long, 605PRO could degrade resin. Do Not Use On: PVC, drywall, limestone, plastic, veneer, terrazzo tile, or rubber
Important information
'May cause eye irritation. Keep out of reach of children.'
Apply the Blue Bear 605 Pro Coating Remover to the surface with the coating that needs to be removed.
Usage Tips from the Pros: • When used outdoors, or for longer dwell times, cover with a 2 mil or thicker plastic sheeting over the work area to help keep stripper wet and working. Test Area: Due to variances in surfaces and conditions, always test in a small, inconspicuous area before using on complete project. Application: Shake well. Apply a 2-3mm layer of 605PRO by pouring, brushing, squeegee, or commercial airless sprayer. Applying too thin will cause 605PRO to dry out before removal is complete. Use a scraper to check if the coating is softened down to the surface. If not, wait longer and recheck. When the coating is completely softened, remove with a scraper. Clean Up: Use 700DG and a scrub brush, mop, or power washer to clean remaining thin residue. Remove excess coating(s) and 605PRO before using a power washer for final cleaning. Allow surface to dry before further preparations. *605PRO can be reused on the same project if stripper retains gel consistancy. Spread used 605PRO onto unstripped areas using the application instructions above.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2023We removed polyurethane from a long oak shelf. We quickly got down to the bear wood. A little light sanding and ready for staining and re-coating. Very little odor and easy to work with.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2024BUYERS BE AWARE!!! DO NOT USE BELOW 50 DEGREES! Nowhere on the description of this product or on the bottle, or on any of the instructional videos does it say not to use it below 50 degrees. Just called Franmar and they told me they recommend using it at outdoor temps of 50 degrees plus, it will work at lower temps, but it will take a very long time. I don't know how this product actually works at 50 degrees plus because I just wasted an entire bottle thinking it would work as long as it was above freezing. This company needs better instructions for use.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2022I like that it goes on easily and removed multiple layers of paint in one application. I used tissue to cover it for several hours and then scraped the goo off with a painters tool. I was unable to complete the scraping in one area for over 24 hours and it dried. The scraping was harder but it still came off and was not as messy.
The smell is a little strong for me, but it is supposedly non-toxic and better than dry sanding. It needs to be followed up with wet sanding, which cleans and smooths the surface with less dust.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2024Stripped an old Ethan Allen furniture piece that had the standard nutmeg stain and varnish finish. Only one coat was needed. Clear coat and stain came off easily. Cleaned up with soapy water. Sanded after dry.
I found out later, they sell Safenol Paint and Urethane stripper at Ace for $17. It's made with the same chemicals. Just did a comparison test between 605 and Safenol on another furniture piece and got the same result.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2023Used this to remove a light layer of paint on outside concrete. I don’t think it was strong enough and now need to go with a stronger gel that is more toxic but works better.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2025This stuff is great at stripping furniture.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2023I’ve never stripped wood before so this review comes from an inexperienced person.
It did a great job but there is a learning curve. I was stripping an oak 6 panel door that I had used the wrong polyurethane on it (soft satin is very shiny for a door).
Slop it on and let it sit. It needs to sit longer than 15 minutes. It starts reacting immediately but the change in texture doesn’t mean it’s drying or that it’s finished. A credit card worked great for removing it from the corners. Use disposable gloves, I used gardening gloves I had bought for $1. The remover ate a hole in them, I imagine it would not be healthy to not use gloves. Make sure you get in those corners, it will leave gunk behind and you don’t want to restain over it. I need to strip the edging as well and will definitely use this again. I had plenty for the 8’ door and have enough to strip the door edging.
I watched a few videos and it was on the “best strippers” list. Do not search for best strippers, you will regret having it on your search history. 😆
