We have had our original Open It tool for at least 10 years. It still works but the lever to extend box cutter broke down so I decided to replace it with the newer version. So far so good! I like the added safety of the cover over box cutter. We use this tool almost everyday, so time will tell if it can hold up as well as its predecessor!

This is my second Zebra Open It! I finally wore out my first one. I had used it almost daily for years. I am so pleased with the new one. My original was green in color and this one is a beautiful blue. I am looking forward to years of use with this one as well. Terrific product to make opening packages a breeze and with all the cardboard packaging these days it makes quick work out of cutting up the cardboard, even the thick cardboard, into more appropriate smaller sized for our recycle bin. I remain a big fan of this neat product.

My dad bought me one of these years ago. I thought it was the stupidest “dad gift” thing—until I used it the first time. Then I was hooked. After several moves and years of constant use, the closure broke. She still cuts just like Day 1, but I decided maybe a second wasn’t a bad idea.

The old on slices through even the most awkward packaging and makes opening anything so much more pleasant. And the newer version is even better!

The open-close clip used to be one sided, now it’s two—so much stronger AND easier to open no matter which way I pick it up.
The utility knife previously had this difficult little lock on the slide, now it’s a flip cover at the bottom and an easy slide retractor. The flip clicks out of and into place as it moves so it takes intention to open up which is a great design vs safety compromise IMO.
The main cutting blades are a little narrower which makes it a little easier to get into tight places.
The screwdriver piece is exactly the same but no complaints there, especially as I rarely use it.
My original was a gaudy safety-orange color—great for not losing it, terrible for aesthetics. This blue is so much more pleasant to have in my kitchen drawer!
I think the handles are a little slimmer too, which is good for my small hands!
