The plastic is durable and you don’t need the tool to remove it and worked out well. The only advice I could give you is that you don’t have too much mortar on. It takes a little bit to clean up then good worked out well I definitely recommend.

I only ended up using a few of these, as some people in the reviews noted they were hard to remove. After I used them (I hadn't tried to remove them yet). I mentioned using them to a tile contractor. He told me they are great, even the knock off versions on Amazon. He told me the secret to removing them easily.

Removal Secret: After your thinset has fully cured, 48 hours or more. Take a CLEAN 2x4 block (about 6" - 10" long), leaving the wedge firmly in the clip, hold the 2x4 flat perpendicular to the clip direction (horizontal to the wedge). Then carefully without hitting the tile, give the side of the 2x4 a good whack with a hammer. Those babies just snap off below the grout line. The wedges can then be reused.
