  • Tractive uses GPS/LTE technology and connects to the best available mobile network - just like a phone - to provide location data everywhere your pet goes.

  • Tractive trackers have a built-in SIM card - like your phone - that uses mobile networks to send you location info. All the fees needed to do that are covered by a tracker subscription plan That way, you get to enjoy unlimited range worldwide.

  • A microchip is only effective if the pet is found and brought to a vet and has no location tracking capabilities. A bluetooth item finder, like AirTag, has a range of only 33-100 feet and relies on bluetooth from a nearby phone to function.

  • The Tractive GPS tracker detects a new position:

every 2-60 minutes* in default tracking mode (depending on the activity level of your pet).

every 2-3 seconds in LIVE Tracking mode.

  • Yes. The tracker contains a SIM card and uses this to send data back to your app using cellular (mobile) networks. Good cell coverage ensures the tracker can maintain a stable connection and send you position updates at regular intervals.

7days per battery recharge try 7hours now sadly not even a day goes by when I forget to take it off the charger because honestly it is constantly an issue about expiry of battery if you forget to unplug it doesnt know its full so it harms itself no auto stop on continuong to overdo what it wouldnt need to if any actual true regulation fact checking had been in place to ask for a better battery life than deceiving customers who should be all writing one stars for reviews as using this requires babysitting the thing in anxious anticipation a replacement yeilded the same one day span thats a 7th of the box estimates for battery expiration ..I contacted the vendor recommended I set the tracker to not be activated needlessly by setting the trackers software conditional alerts to transit alerts only wheny dog escapes they call that a digital fence no exageration no noted lifespan was improved by doing that and i prepaid for a year for a second device to double fact check before spitting venom like a dishonest yelp troll might falsely declare im not seeing any other reviews only one or two experiencing this low excuse for a week of juice it claimed i would be protected this is nearly a loss of my own teeth to express my disgust for the fragile runner that is still snapped and three weeks later no replacement has been recieved no delivery tracking nor any estimates match the request for another strap ignored so now Im forced to open a paypal dispute they likely have a single employee who deals with all online website orders who is 80 and recovering from her own misery as a proud owner of the same frustration i am finally giving up to replace ahead of my subsscription for both double payment thinking im better to charge and reverse only makes it more of a chore than a chance at tracking my dog and i forget tomswap them every other day the alerts of the fence dont activate if its dead now would it making my investment worthless wouldnt it be more believable if others stated the same low lifespan and im only seeing one or two bad reviews of all is sickening. An actual metal clip rather than some melted down rubber chinese and weakly snapped in under 6 months still angers me most as if I ordered it a month back and no provided lack of shipping confirmation nor replay for a replacement lost in transit but no one any one accepting im wondering why have added at least a star more than this poor complaint is affording if not for the crickets on the phone no one answering me and my voicemails wheres my order are ignored still today no replacement order im forced to replace the entire unit since if it falls off while shes wearing it i wouldnt get her back nor the device my money made worthless whatever ill cancel and request a refund this is crap take my word for it and look first for a GPS with a better battery as the most essential component over nice looking or extra app features likely theres some tracker better I admit this was the first one I tried And im wishing it worked as advertized i am shocked hardly anyone gets bothered by reattaching and unattaching daily a piece of runner that as a life protection attachment should withstand the life of the unit as the daily banysitting makes this thing break within under a year and replacing the gummy strap will leave you three weeks confused wheres the order i made no replay on their end yet ive called and email but no one is answering ill later complain and lodge a dispute but i have to protect my dog first by studying an alternative more long lasting solution im tired of looking at my dog and being reminded I forgot to reattach the thing after leavingit again two nights on the charger (this is not good for the thing doesnt know its already full and kills the battery by constantly requiring nursing the digital fence doesnt stop it from being daily annoyingly alerting me of low battery its been six months since replacing the thing already to try again to much time wasted trying to recharge and replace it brakes the strap and no delivery confirmation makes this investment worthless true facts i hate to write trash talk for warning future customers but simply redesign this strap with metal and replace the weak dishonest battery with one that outlasts an old iphone 6plus from a decade ago! Lets check closely the declaration of recharge time as my dog is worth the effort in priceless love Id have my marriage canceled if she escaped and this thing was off for my mind is not perfect so i forget to check it daily as if that were acceptable as its only fault the review is rather long winded but im so frustrated with it today and i give up. Works for a day and dies again making me try another for i prepaid another subscription to fact check this is not a one off trust me its no 7 day battery no phone even my iphone 13 promax doesnt do that and its $1,500 so explain the false week reported makes no sense to claim it is a defective double dud order when neither unit lasts over a day before alert declares the thing empty again no way not my dog im not risking the thing falling apart just to continue to trust a product i can find an alternative solution with better effort in quality control hopefully not another decietful reported low lifespan or a battery that kills itself by remaining on charge after full like this one does.

    Color: WhiteVerified Purchase
On my second year of using this tracker for my two female hound dogs.

I live in a rural area on the edge of a national forest. My two dogs have a penchant for running off on little "adventures" that take them miles and miles from our home. They always come back but there are hunters, ranchers with cattle, a moderately busy scenic highway nearby, coyotes, etc. etc -- plenty of hazards.

I got the tracker so that I could go out and run the little rascals down and retrieve them when they take one of these jaunts and it has worked well for that. If I can get within 500 - 1000 feet of them and whistle they will come right to me, with a "Gee, you're out here too? You should have come with us, it was great!" look on their faces.

The only slight drawback is that the tracking is dependent on 1) cell phone coverage and 2) GPS reception. Since our area is remote, mountainous and heavily forested both of these can be spotty or even non-existent depending on where the dogs are. The result is that they drop off the map for some period of time and then re-appear when the tracker gets in range of a cell signal and/or GPS. This coupled with the sparse road network means that it can take some time to run them down but over the last two years I have managed to run them down every time they have taken off. Sometimes it takes an hour or two but that is not the fault of the unit --- it's the environment I live in.

I've found that the location the unit gives is very accurate. Live mode works very well if you have a strong enough cell/GPS signal.

The unit has saved me a lot of worrying and fretting. Before I got it I would have no idea at all where they were and I would just have wait (and hope) they would not get into trouble and would find their way back. BTW, these two must have a biological GPS built into them because after I got the tracker I found that they would go up to 5 miles away and cover a track of 15 miles or so in just a few hours! With the unit I can know, with assurance, that (for instance) "Oh, they're running down the power line right of way to the lake, no big deal" or "They're over at the Smith's ranch, probably chasing calves so I better get them".

So now, if I worry, at least it's more informed worrying! : >

The unit seems to be durable and waterproof. This is my second year with it and it's holding up well. My dogs come back covered in mud, water, cockleburrs, etc. The unit is scratched up a bit but otherwise no worse for the wear.

Battery life is very good. In our wifi power saving zone the battery would probably last up to a week (guessing). Out of the power saving zone and with a lot of live mode tracking I would estimate that battery life would be 1 -2 days. Can't really say for sure because I charge the unit every night, just in case.

My dogs are getting a bit older now and are less adventurous; this unit helped me get them through their adolescence and was certainly worth every penny for the unit and subscription!

    UPDATE: February 2025
The battery on the tracker that I purchased nearly two years ago degraded to the point that I would have to charge it every night. The charge would barely last 24 hours, less if I was using live tracking. A couple of times it went flat while I was still out looking for my dogs.

So, I bought another one. The newer model has an updated charging arrangement that is a cradle that securely snaps on to the tracker. The older model had a cord with a magnetic socket that was easy to detach so you had to be careful when setting it down or the connection would be lost. So the new charging arrangement is definitely an improvement.

The newer model has great battery life. So far I have gone 3 - 4 day (with a fair amount of life tracking in there) without it dropping below 50%. This better than I got when my first unit was new so perhaps Tractive has improved some of the inner workings too.

So -- not a complaint at all. I got almost two years use out of the first tracker and I think that is quite good. Nothing lasts forever, all things wear out and for the price (less than $50) I consider this good longevity.

Great product, at least for me, and I will definitely renew my subscription (for the third year) come March when it expires.

have added at least a star more than this poor complaint is affording if not for the crickets on the phone no one answering me and my voicemails wheres my order are ignored still today no replacement order im forced to replace the entire unit since if it falls off while shes wearing it i wouldnt get her back nor the device my money made worthless whatever ill cancel and request a refund this is crap take my word for it and look first for a GPS with a better battery as the most essential component over nice looking or extra app features likely theres some tracker better I admit this was the first one I tried And im wishing it worked as advertized i am shocked hardly anyone gets bothered by reattaching and unattaching daily a piece of runner that as a life protection attachment should withstand the life of the unit as the daily banysitting makes this thing break within under a year and replacing the gummy strap will leave you three weeks confused wheres the order i made no replay on their end yet ive called and email but no
one is answering ill later complain and lodge a dispute but i have to protect my dog first by studying an alternative more long lasting solution im tired of looking at my dog and being reminded I forgot to reattach the thing after leavingit again two nights on the charger (this is not good for the thing doesnt know its already full and kills the battery by constantly requiring nursing the digital
fence doesnt stop it from being daily annoyingly alerting me of low battery its been six months since replacing the thing already to try again to much time
wasted trying to recharge and replace it brakes the strap and no delivery confirmation makes this investment worthless true facts i hate to write trash talk for warning future customers but simply redesign this strap with metal and replace the weak dishonest battery with one that outlasts an old iphone 6plus from a decade ago! Lets check closely the declaration
    of recharge time
as my dog is worth the effort in priceless love Id have my marriage canceled if she escaped and this thing was off for my mind is not perfect so i forget to check it daily as if that were acceptable as its only fault the review is rather long winded but im
so frustrated with it today and i give up. Works for a day and dies again making me try another for i prepaid another subscription to fact check this is not a one off trust me its no 7 day battery no phone even my iphone 13 promax doesnt do that and its $1,500 so explain the false week reported makes no sense to claim it is a defective double dud order when neither unit lasts over a day before alert declares the thing empty again no way not my dog im not risking the thing falling apart just to continue to trust a product i can find an alternative solution with better effort in quality control hopefully not another decietful
reported low lifespan or a battery that kills itself by remaining on charge after full like this one does.

Mycket bra för oss med en smitare! Funkar perfekt, larmar direkt när vovven hamnar utanför tillåtet område.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well but has to be charged daily

Overall I think its a good product. I bought it for my puppy as I was concerned she might escape from the backyard. The activity tracking features are a fun bonus to me. I like that I can set virtual fences that alert me if my puppy goes outside the virtual fence. I have a small house so the virtual fence doesn't go small enough to be just my house, however it gets small enough that my puppy still can't go far before I get notified. And I think having it be that bit bigger than house means that I don't get false alarms. I enjoy the local leaderboard feature. I think its cute to be able to see how active other dogs in the area are. I also really like the light and noise features. I have started training my puppy to respond to the noise feature as a recall signal which I think will be great for for when they are off lead.

My only real complaint is the battery life. I find that it needs to be charged basically every day. I find it easiest to charge it overnight just like my phone. It does charge fast enough though that I can also charge it while she naps during the day and have it on nearly 24/7. Just depends what you want to use it for. I put it on my cat to see where he goes outside and I did find that the battery lasted a lot longer as he barely moves all day. I only had to charge it every 2-3 days for the cat. So I think it depends on how active your animal is. My puppy is quite active. Shes up and running around and playing for about 5 hours everyday.

As per some of the other reviews stating their tracker stopped working after about a month, I signed up for the $14 a month subscription, which i would recomend doing for at least the first month or 2 to make sure you like it and it works well in your area before commiting to the cheaper but upfront yearly plans as others have said if the product doesn't work they could not get a refund for the subscription only the tracker itself.
