- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2025So cute, easy for little kids to learn but still a challenge. Love the cooperative play and kids feel good about themselves rescuing the dinosaurs from the volcano! My 5year old twins can play this without help. Great game and worth the buy!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2025Fun game! Save the dinosaur. Fairly quick game so good for younger kids.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2020We bought three Peaceable Kingdom board games (Stackem up, Race to the treasure, and this one). All three are fun, but Dino Escape is our favorite because of the combination of memory game with the excitement of an “erupting” volcano. My 6yr old son used to hate board games because he is extremely competitive and so he would usually end up in tears every time he lost. But with Dino Escape (and other Peaceable Kingdom games), he really enjoys working together and has so much fun trying to rescue the Dinosaurs. He even made up his own additional rules to make the game more fun by assigning strategy to each token. For a kid who used to cry after every game, it is a miracle that he laughs when we all lose together and the volcano “erupts”. After owning the game for several months he still requests to play Dino Escape at least 3-4 times a week and even will request to play this instead of watching a show during his little sisters’ nap time! I can’t recommend this game more highly! The game itself (as with all the Peaceable Kingdom games) is of very high quality and the game disc pieces look and feel like they will last for a long time. My only recommendation is that the volcano should be made out of plastic instead of the thick cardboard because I worry it might start fraying after a few years. But so far, after 2-3months of heavy use, we haven’t had any issues.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2017Basically once you have one Peaceable Kingdom game you have them all.
This said, we own 3 of them: The owls one, which wasn't a great success, the Treasure one (the first and best one) and this one.
This one seems to be the easiest of all. So far we never lost. In order to lose you need to build the Volcano, in order to build it you need to get it when you roll the die, we rarely get the volcano, another way to turn the REX dinosaur ... if you get the REX the dinosaurs go back to their starting point, not sure if also the ones already saved go back though, in order to make it harder we put back also the ones that were already saved, but we already know where their card are so it's easy to save them again.... This game is in part a memory game, I don't believe there is much strategy in it ... you can move the dinosaurs either way on the board.
My 4.5. appreciates the game, he says he likes the volcano.
In theory this game can be played alone, you don't really need 2 players.
Guess it's a good choice as a first board game but I believe we are done with peaceable Kingdom and moving to something a bit different, not sure what yet, I like the cooperative concept though and I believe it can be applied to any other board game where you can play in teams.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2024The review from my dinosaur-loving 4-year-old son says it all. He's in a big board game phase and took to this game immediately. Fun for the kids, and slightly more engaging for adults than the usual Candyland or Chutes&Ladders. Cooperative gameplay means everyone is on the same team. The game is well-themed and cute, and exciting for preschoolers. Rules are so simple, we learned it together in minutes. Highly recommend!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2022After reading a recommendation from The Wirecutter, I picked up this game for my 3-year-old son for Christmas. He picked it up quickly and still loves playing it years later. It's essentially a memory game - you move 3 dinosaurs around the board and try to find the corresponding tokens to send the dinos to "safety" before bad dice rolls end the game.
It's easy to understand and it works well, no matter how many players you have. Because everyone is working together to save the dinos, you win or lose as a team.
If you have a young kid, this is an excellent gateway game to help them understand taking turns and using their memories.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2018I work as a speech therapist in an elementary school and I use this game in therapy, usually as a motivator/to break up practicing sounds (e.g. say your word ten times and then take your turn with the game!). When I let the kids pick the game, this is usually the one they grab off the shelf. The box is eye-catching, and they love the toy dinosaurs and the 3-D volcano puzzle that come with the game. The pieces of the game are durable, detailed, and attractive--for a lot of kids it's more fun to play imaginatively with the pieces than to attempt the game :)
The concept of a "cooperative game" is confusing for the littler kids (and some of the older, more delayed kids) on my caseload--the kindergarteners usually insist that one of the dinosaurs is "their" dinosaur and get mad at other kids for moving it. I have to explain that "we're ALL helping ALL the dinosaurs!" many times. I think it's great for them to get exposure to the concept, though, and they seem to have fun even if they're not quite sure what's going on! To make the gameplay faster and simple enough for lower-level kids, we usually just leave the tokens face-up on the board.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for children to learn how to play board games
We really like this game. It looks sweet (with nice illustrations and high-quality dinosaur figurines), but more importantly, it's a cooperative game where it's not about one person winning, but everyone playing together to help the dinosaurs escape the volcano. It's a great introduction to board games, and suitable for children that are 4 years +. The rules are easy to understand, which as an always tired parent, I really appreciate.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was bought as a gift, but I was told that the just turned 5 year old really loves it!
I was also told that it definitely helps teaching that sharing and helping each other is a great way to get things done! The game came in a shipping box which was not damaged and the game box was in perfect shape also. The game is very much liked by the child.
