If you serve kids or even some cranky adults, there are often complaints about how someone else got a larger slice of what is being served. This server makes simple work of cutting a watermelon or other melon and makes uniform size slices! It is sturdy, made of wood and stainless steel, and easy to keep clean, it mostly just needs rinsing off. This is a huge time saver also as no one wants to spend all sorts of time and effort doing something as mundane as slicing melons. One note is that the one side is very sharp and so one might want to relegate it to a drawer that little hands can't get into, and always put it blade side down. Another solution would be to have a utensil holder of some sort. There isn't much danger of cutting yourself on the blade itself but if one is rummaging in drawers blind or if pressure is being exerted on the tool, one could find oneself with a cut. I'm not trying to scare anyone off, I'm just stating that any and all instruments with sharp edges need to be treated with respect. This is a wonderful kitchen tool and has made my life easier with cutting uniform slices that not only look professional but can curtail jealousy in different size servings.
